Sometimes we are asked which of the countries we visited made the biggest impression. That question does not have an easy answer. Each country and trip had its own characteristics, as a result of which it was unique and worthwhile. Below I try to describe our trip and the country in one or two small sentences to indicate what was most particular to that specific trip.
Thailand: the first big trip is of course always special. Traveling in a group is easy, but also stressful.
Mexico: a beautiful country. Nice culture en great history, easy to travel by public transport.
Beijing: our first trip to China. It's best to have an organized trip if you travel to China for the first time. Unique, cheap and beautiful.
Tibet: the other China. Certainly one of the most impressive trips. Culture fantastic, back in time.
Nepal: if you love hiking, this is a must. Nowhere else have we found so much space and quiet.
Zimbabwe: Victoria Falls very beautiful. It's a pity Mugabe makes the country unsafe for white people. Certainly worth a visit.
Zambia: the eclipse in these circumstances is of course unique. Rather unknown for its safari possibilities.
Botswana: Chobe was a bit disappointing, Okavango Delta very impressive with wild life camping and flying over the delta.
Namibia: we want to return here. So many beautiful wild- and nature reserves like Etosha, Waterberg and Sossusvlei.
South-Africa: too short for a good impression. Climbing table mountain is a must.
Yunnan (China): the unique opportunity to be present at Chinese wedding parties in a beautiful province.
Kruger Park (South-Africa): 2 weeks Kruger Park and we still didn't think it was too much. Safari is great, certainly traveling on your own.
Breckenridge (Colorado, USA): 1 week skiing in the USA.
Australia: Sydney is a relaxed city, Northern Territory a beautiful province. A 4WD camper supports all the freedom you need.
Jordan: first time in the Middle East. Beautiful monuments and more relaxing atmosphere then expected.
Andalusia (Spain) : amazing cities with great monuments. Unfortunately the weather was a bit disappointing.
Costa Rica: our first trip with a baby. Costa Rica is relaxed with beautiful nature.
Canada: second trip with a baby. Atmosphere everywhere relaxed (even in the cities) and nature and wildlife beautiful. A bit more pricy then earlier destinations.
Chile: visiting a migrated friend. Amazing nature: gletsjers, volcano's and lakes and very relaxed people. Long distances.
La Palma: for the first time with two small children. Beautiful green island with nice walks and special drivingtours.
Champery (Switzerland): Spring in a skiingarea. Beautiful walks and special drivingtours.
Malaisia: A moslim country. Perfect for traveling on your own with small children.
Portugal: the Algarve at Christmas. Good weather and we booked half pension so no hustle.
Porto Rico: Beautiful green island with nice mountains, but why all the fast food..?
Chile: once again visiting a migrated friend. This time we can talk a little Spanish with her children and other relatives.
Argentina: Buenos Aires isn't that attractive. Tandil is. Salta is worth a visit. The mountains to the north are dusty!
Northern-Chile: crossing the Andes by bus. How big is the Atacama dessert!
Peru: big differences within one country. Cuszo en Machu Picchu beautiful and green. Tacna, Arequipa, Lima and Trujillo appear to be surrounded by dessert unexpectedly.
Above you find only very short descriptions of the trips we made. If you're interested in more information about one of these countries, read a travel report and look at the pictures. There are also pictures of many trips within Europe.
